A transparent truck. Or more precisely, a truck equipped with a large screen on the back of the trailer that projects images of what is happening in front of the semi-trailer truck. Science fiction? No: the answer is Safety Truck, the vehicle prototype recently presented by the well-known Korean company Samsung. Its aim is to make overtaking safer by reducing the risk of road accidents.
A wireless videocamera which takes the driver’s road view and projects directly onto the screen located on the back of the truck to allow other cars about to overtake to benefit from a complete view so they can carry out the manoeuvre. This is Samsung’s brilliant proposal which has already provoked interest from transport and technology enthusiasts and also those intrigued by the news that has been pursued on the Internet in recent months. It’s no surprise that the video has already received one million views because we sometimes forget how innovation can lead to solutions that, although out of the ordinary, can actually be achieved.
Samsung has chosen to introduce the launch of its Safety Truck in Argentina since it has a high number of fatal road accidents recorded every year, many of which are caused by incorrect overtaking manoeuvres. The solution proposed by the Korean company is awaiting permission from the transport safety authorities and agencies and, if granted, will optimise the proposal to make it feasible.
It simply remains to await developments to discover whether, once again, the technology will be able to be used on security systems.
